Stef De Brabander (lives and works in Ghent) never starts with a blank canvas. This is why he often uses recycled materials as his base. He creates collages and resampling paintings, where existing elements or images are reused and reassembled. His work sometimes features paint on canvas cut into abstractions or scratched away to reveal another layer.
The created image offers a renewed and personal rediscovery of the world. It reveals something of which no one was previously aware.
