Elise Vandeplancke (°1992) is a Belgian illustrator who creates a colorful, visual world inspired by people, plants, and animals. These elements help her capture a message or identity in her illustrations.
In her studio in Kortrijk, Elise mainly works on paper with oil pastels. She explores how colors can complement one another to bring either calmness or tension to a motif.
For her commercial work, Elise often chooses digital techniques, which suit the speed and efficiency required to meet tight deadlines. In her personal work, however, she seeks the freedom to experiment. “I feel a strong urge to play with different materials and discover new things."
“I see my work as a quest to explore the female body. I experiment with simplifying, dissecting, and rearranging forms. I push the boundaries of legibility within an image and enjoy the creative process. Color and texture play an important role in this. Sometimes, I start over repeatedly with the same image, allowing me the freedom to experiment with materials.”
